3-Description

Suffolk County Tax Map District 200, Sections 978.20, Block 03.00, Lots 017.000, 061.02 and 081.003; and District 0200, Section 978.30, Block 04.00, Lots 001.001 and 002.000.

4-Significance

In 1995, at the suggestion of the Brookhaven Village Association, vacant and unimproved contiguous parcels of land (about 37 acres) on South Country road owned by Suffolk County were designated as as the "Dennis Puleston Nature Preserve." The property was formerly owned by George Hawes and is part of the Suffolk County Open Space Preservation Program (Beaver Dam Creek and Sheildraqke Canal). The land was placed under the jurisdiction of the Suffolk County Department of Parks, Recreation and Conservation. It was to be maintained in its natural unimproved state.
