- As recorded in the Long Island Advance, 16 August 2007, 100 years ago:
"Tuesday night Patchoguers saw a very large blaze to the eastward and the report came that it was the Wyandotte Hotel at Bellport, but the fire was at Center Moriches, 14 miles away. It was the Hotel Brooklyn and the 250 patrons in the house when the fire started saved only what they wore. Automobiles and vehicles stored in sheds and belonging to the guests were saved. Transportation was at once provided for the patrons and they were taken to other hotels along the beach and in the village. Frank Rogers, the proprietor, said he was unable as yet to estimate his losses or those of his guests. The loss will be about $75,000 partly covered by insurance. Bishop and Hallock [likely an error, probably Hallock Bishop], the owners, announced they woud not rebuild."
