From "Early Photographs of the Hamlet of Brookhaven collected by George Perley Morse 1945-1959."
This picture is of the original church before a steeple and additions were added. It may even be of the building before it was moved from South Country Road to Beaver Dam Road -- the steeple being added shortly after the move in 1872.
If it is of the church before it was moved, then the man in front may be Leveret Reeve, minister of the church during its early years. If so, this would date the picture before 1861 when he died, and would make it one of the earliest photographs in the Post-Morrow Foundation collection.

This photograph was copied from a post card in the collection available at the Post-Morrow Foundation. Since it is labeled "Presbyterian Church" it must be after the exchange of church buildings that occurred between the Methodists and Presbyterians, whereby the Methodists acquired the building they now occupy in Bellport.

This photograph shows members of the congregation in front of the church. The three men in front have been identified as, from left, Rev. Dr. Barton, Dr. Kavanaugh, Dr. Wilson. I would very much like to identify others in the picture, and the occasion for the picture.

The church building was purchased by artist Philip Read after the Old South Haven Presbyterian Church was moved from South Haven to Brookhaven. The building was no longer needed by the Presbyterians.
