Among his more notable contributions was the first comprehensive inventory of cemeteries and their stones in the Town of Brookhaven. The Fire Place Literary Club was, and still is, a prominent women's organization in Brookhaven Hamlet. Among their many achievements is the founding of the Brookhaven Free Library and the nudging of other community betterment and improvement projects. Osborne Shaw's History of Brookhaven Village, written 70 years ago, is found only in manuscript form. As far as I know, it has never been published.
